WORDSNAP PRIVACY POLICY

WordSnap helps users translate selected words and phrases, save vocabulary cards, review them, and read imported texts. This policy explains what data the extension handles and why.

DATA WORDSNAP HANDLES

• Account information: email address and authentication session when a user chooses to sign in.
• Learning data: saved words and phrases, translations, pronunciation data, example sentences, source page titles and URLs, highlight counts, card edits, review history, and language preferences.
• Reader data: imported text or EPUB content, book metadata, and reading progress.
• Translation requests: the selected word or phrase and its source and target languages.
• Translation authentication: a separate anonymous Supabase identity used to authorize requests and enforce quotas.

HOW DATA IS USED

• Translation requests are sent to an authenticated WordSnap Supabase Edge Function only when a translation is requested. The function forwards the selected text and language codes to Google Cloud Translation.
• Signed-in users may synchronize learning data and reader data through Supabase so that the same account can be used across supported browsers and devices.
• Page content is inspected locally to make visible text clickable. WordSnap does not collect general browsing history. It stores page information only when it is attached to a word or phrase the user saves.
• The Google Cloud Translation credential is stored only as a server-side Edge Function secret and is not included in the extension.

SHARING AND SALE OF DATA

WordSnap does not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers. Data is disclosed only to the service providers needed to provide user-requested translation, authentication, and synchronization.

STORAGE AND CONTROL

Users can delete individual cards and books in WordSnap. Signing out stops account synchronization on that device. Users may contact the developer through the support option on the Chrome Web Store listing to request deletion of cloud account data.

SECURITY

WordSnap uses encrypted HTTPS connections to Supabase, which proxies translation requests to Google Cloud Translation. Cloud records are scoped to the authenticated user through database access policies. Anonymous translation identities are used for authentication, abuse prevention, and quota enforcement.

CHANGES

This policy may be updated when WordSnap's features or service providers change. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are made.
